Atin Basak

One of the finest graphic artists of India ATIN BASAK excels in paintings also.Master of both the mediums (graphics and paintings), he moves from one medium to another with ease. Born in 1966 in Kolkata, Atin's favourite medium in paintings is tempera. Expert in all the streams of graphic arts, Atin did his B. V. A. in painting from Goernment College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata in 1991, Then he moved to Vadodara for his post graduation in print making from M. S. University and passed out in 1993.

Atin Basak has got two international awards so far. One from VII Biennial, 1st International Gravura Exhibition, Amadora, Portugal in 2000 and  another from Bharat Bhavan International Biennial Print-Art, India in 2006.Side by side, this young talent bagged many prestigious national awards also. Important amongst them are: Bombay Art Society's annual award in 1992 and 1996, Annual awards of Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata in 1994 and 1995 and Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata in 1996, VIIth annual award of All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), New Delhi in 1998, Eastern Indian Young Artists Art Exhibition, organised by Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi in 1998.

Kolkatan's had the previlege to see his works in bulk for the first time in 1992 at his first solo show in Kolkata's Academy of Fine Arts. Since then he has 10 solo shows to his credit. His solo show was held in Les Comptoris De L'Inde, Paris in 2000, Gallery Grewal, Paris in 2000, Le Hangar, Ville du Port, organised by L'Ecole des Beaux Arts of La Reunion, France in 2004 besides Mumbai, Vadodara, Bangaluru, Kolkata. Atin's solo exhibition and slide show at Edinburgh Print Makers Workshop and Gallery, Edinburgh, U. K. was a huge success. As a practising artist , he also participated in various group shows in India and abroad, including Lalit Kala Akademi's (New Delhi) National Exhibition in 1991, 1992, 2000, 2001, 2007, Glasgow Print Fair, Glasgow, U. 2000, XIth Intrnational Exhibitions of Small Graphic Forms, Poland-Lodz in 2002, Bharat Bhavan International Biennale of Print in 1997, 2001, 2006 and 2008, VII Biennale Intrnational de la Gravure d'lle-de, France, in 2009.

Atin was invited by many international and national organisations to show his creation such as Macau International Exhibition of Prints organised by Macau Museum of Art in 2002, 4th Egyptian International Print Triennale organised by Ministry of Culture, Egypt in 2003, XIth Triennale of India organised by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in 2005. In his artistic career, Atin Basak attended many workshops and camps in India, Thailand, Bhutan.

Atin's sensitive and intimate works find place in various public and private collections in India and abroad including L'artotheque du Department de La Reunion, Saint Denis La Reunion, France, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, Vadodara Palace Museum, Vadodara.

Member of Society of Contemporary Artists Trust since 2003, Atin lives and works in Kolkata.
